What is an FAA DER?
Designated Engineering Representative (DER):
An FAA DER Consultant is an individual, appointed by the FAA, who holds an engineering degree or equivalent, possesses technical knowledge and experience, and meets qualification requirements defined by the FAA. These individuals have been delegated by the FAA to act as engineering representatives to approve or recommend approval of technical data to the FAA. There are nine technical disciplines that a DER can be authorized
- Acoustical Engineering
- Engine Engineering
- Flight Analyst
- Flight Test Pilot
- Powerplant Engineering
- Propeller Engineering
- Radio Engineering
- Structural Engineering
- System and Equipment Engineering
In summary, a consultant DER is an extension of the FAA Aircraft Certification Office (ACO) that works directly with the public to develop, review, and approve or recommend approval (FAA form 8110-3) of technical data such as drawings, reports and analyses to support FAA certification of major aircraft modifications and products. The Aeronautix team can support your certification project requiring FAA approval from any of the nine DER technical disciplines above!
What is an FAA DAR?
Designated Airworthiness Representative (DAR):
A DAR is an individual appointed by the FAA who may perform examination, inspection, and testing services necessary to the issuance of airworthiness certificates. There are two types of DARs, manufacturing (MIDO) and maintenance (FSDO).
Aeronautix works with DARs that are retired FAA FSDO and MIDO inspectors for all conformity and airworthiness certification inspections.
